Biplas – From Tool Trials to Advanced Medical Manufacturing
Biplas was established in the early 1990s, originally formed to carry out mould tool trials for its sister company, Triform Moulds. What began as a supporting function quickly evolved into an ambitious manufacturing business in its own right.
Our History
In 1992, Biplas relocated to South Wales, creating the opportunity to expand as a stand-alone manufacturing operation. During this period, Biplas secured a major contract to manufacture GLADE plug-in air fresheners, achieving production volumes of 11 million units within the first 18 months — a significant milestone that demonstrated the company’s large-scale manufacturing capability.
Growth with Blue-Chip Clients
Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, Biplas continued to grow its customer base, working with a number of blue-chip organisations across multiple sectors. These included:
– Sony TV Plants
– Bosch Automotive
– Textron Automotive
– Power Supply Cords
– Gyrus Medical
Quaker Oats – as the sole supplier of promotional products, including the Epix Footie Heroes range, followed by products supporting the Scooby-Doo film launch
During this period, Biplas also secured a defence project supplying Night Sights for the British Army and European allies, further reinforcing its reputation for quality and reliability.
Quality, Environmental & Automotive Accreditation
To support its expanding client base, Biplas achieved key industry accreditations, including:
Export Expansion
With stable automotive production in the early 2000s, Biplas expanded internationally, exporting products to France, Romania, Hungary, and the United States, strengthening its global presence.
Entering Medical & Healthcare (2008)
In 2008, Biplas Medical was incorporated to strategically develop the company’s presence within the medical and healthcare sectors, marking a deliberate shift towards higher-precision and regulated manufacturing environments.
Cleanroom Manufacturing Capability (2018)
To support medical and high-specification projects, Biplas installed its first Class 7 cleanroom in 2018. This investment enabled the company to secure projects requiring cleanroom injection moulding and two-colour printing, further enhancing its technical capabilities.
Advanced Automation & Micro Moulding (2019)
In 2019, Biplas invested in robotic automation to support a large-scale gas fracking project in the USA and Canada, ensuring production capacity could meet anticipated demand. Although COVID-19 delayed the project launch and impacted volumes, the investment strengthened long-term automation capability.
That same year, Biplas entered the micro moulding market through a joint development project with a leading Dutch company. Supported by an Innovate UK grant, this initiative introduced:
-
A Class 5 cleanroom
-
Dedicated micro moulding machinery
-
Microscope camera inspection systems for ultra-small components
This capability enabled Biplas to offer micro moulding using PEEK materials, ideal for extreme environments and advanced medical device applications.
Focus on Medical Devices & Bioscience (2025 onwards)
In early 2025, Biplas made the strategic decision to exit the USA automotive market to focus fully on medical devices and bioscience manufacturing. To support this direction, a further Class 7 cleanroom is scheduled for installation in January 2026, reinforcing Biplas’ long-term commitment to high-precision, regulated manufacturing.
